Bedari, with support from Girls Education International (GEI) has been supporting 101 girls for their post primary education. All the girls appeared for their annual exams in the year 2016. The results for most of the classes have been announced. Here are the details:
35 girls appeared for exams from grade 6 and 7, and 21 from grade 8, all of them passed their exam successfully.
25 girls appeared for the secondary exams, and all of them passed too. One girl got married so could not appear for the exams.
There were 11 girls who appeared for 11th grade, their result is awaited. Out of 6 girls, only 3 appeared for the higher secondary exams (12th grade) and their result has not been announced yet. Rest of the three dropped out for various reasons.
Two girls appeared for BA (14th grade or graduation) – one has passed while the other girl would have to appear again for two papers.
This year, a girl, Aiman achieved highest marks at the secondary level exams. She secured 884 marks out of 1050. We are sure that she will receive the prize announced by government of Punjab which is in the form of cash worth of PKR 27,000/- (US $270). Furthermore, this makes her eligible for fee waiver if she studies at any government college for higher secondary education.
Last year, two girls, Sundas and Uzma, secured over 70 % marks in their annual secondary exams. They both recently received Pak Rs. 27,000/- each from the government of Punjab, and they have been promised that the fee they paid in the past one year would be reimbursed by the government.
We are really very happy at this wonderful achievement of our girls, and thank everyone including our friends and supporters who have donated generously to this cause on Global Giving, those who personally deposited their donations at Bedari offices or in its account, and those who provided technical support. Girls Education International deserves special mention here as they have been coordinating with Global Giving and Bedari to keep this project on track. Last but not least, we are grateful to the girls and their parents to have shown immense trust in our efforts. We believe with each girl educated, we are giving the world one educated family.
