Crisis Intervention Program:
Violence against women and girls is rampant in Pakistan and a huge majority of women are helpless and have to take it quietly. Under its Crises Intervention Program, Bedari addresses VAW through following ways.
  • Crisis Center

Bedari provides support to women survivors of violence through psychological counseling, legal aid and by referring them to other services such as hospitals and Shelters. Bedari advertises this program through various means so that more and more women can get benefit from this program. Bedari is now establishing offices in rural districts of Pakistan such as Chakwal in Punjab province, Mansehra in NWFP and Muzaffarabad in Kashmir.

  • Self Growth Workshops for Women and Young Girls

Illiteracy, Purda (Covering of face with a veil), limited mobility, undue pressures from the society to opt for a submissive life within the boundary of the home, lack of opportunities to participate in the decision making and many other harmful practices have suppressed women. This is all very challenging for their self esteem. The self growth workshops are very effective in helping them to extend their boundaries, feel confident about themselves and not to let their self esteem sink.

  • Advocacy

There are laws and structures which discriminate against women. There are religious interpretations and cultural practices that force women to sub human status. There are unfortunate incidents every now and then where women are subject to extreme violence and they need extra support to claim justice or at least for rehabilitation. Bedari does advocacy campaigns on issues related to women and girls’ human rights. Bedari is founding partner on many advocacy campaigns such campaign for the repeal of discriminatory laws promulgated during Zia era of Islamization.

  • Campaign on Voilence Against Women(VAW) During Sixteen Days of Activism

Sixteen days of activism is celebrated every year by organizing different activities to address violence against women. These activities are either organized individually or through networking with other organizations. The campaigns include seminars, talk shows, radio programs, writing articles and press releases, and rallies to end violence against women. The purpose of such campaigns is to put pressure on government to make laws and to make the society realize the issue of violence against women and it effects on society as a whole.

  • Alliance at Sexual Harassment at Work Place

In our society a very small percentage of women are on paid job outside home. The very small number who is out at work faces sexual harassment at work place. Bedari is a founding member of the network called AASHA. It is working to raise awareness on the issue at all levels.
