“It was my first experience of attending such training. I have learned a lot from it. I now know how to deal with different circumstances such as sexual harassment,” shared Uzma Shaheen, one of the participants of the training.
Bedari organized an extensive training for girls on self-awareness, gender and patriarchal system under building child marriage free communities project at different villages of district Chakwal. Purpose behind planning this activity was to help girls explore and know their potentials and the ways to strengthen them. They should be aware of the terms gender and sex. Including that patriarchal system and its impact on women life was also part of this training.
This particular training was especially designed for the girls. In this training girls learnt about themselves. They came to know about their hidden qualities and attributes. Gender issues were also discussed in this training. They were briefed about the patriarchal system and its components. Girls were told how to figure out their strengths and weaknesses. Bedari also works for awareness among the society and this activity was a part of the awareness campaign.
Another participant, Kadija Bibi said, “It is very important for us to know about those facts that how our society has imposed certain restriction on us as far as our role as women and girls is considered. We are bound to do domestic chores and day long house hold labor. Girls education has now been second priority for most of the parents and girls marriage are the first. This needs to stop.”
