Governance is the physical exercise of management, power and policy. It is an important issue that affects all the citizens especially women and children in one way or the other. Many problems can be solved by improving governance, and making authorities more responsive to the needs of women and children. For example, if education department is working efficiently, and schools are running properly, we would be able to put many children including girls into schools, thereby enabling them to exploit their potential fully for their growth and development. Similarly, easy access to health facilities, efficient law enforcement, and access to justice also play important role in protection of women’s and children’s rights. There are laws, rules, and regulations which protect women’s and children’s rights, but implementation of these laws depends on good governance. Therefore, Bedari believes that it should not ignore this important component of the public life. Being a Right-Based organization, we have to focus on good governance to ensure that the rights of the weaker segments of the society are protected and these segments get more opportunities to develop and flourish in the society as much as anyone can.
