HIV and Aids Program

HIV & AIDS is a women’s rights issue. The degree of disempowerment of women is directly related to the amount of risk they face to be affected with HIV and AIDS. They are the ones much less involved with the risky behaviors but still at risk due to the risky behaviors of their male relations. Also the information and awareness opportunities for women and girls are much less than those for men. Bedari holds awareness sessions with different communities in Chakwal, Muzzafarabad and Islamabad. It targets youth, prayer leaders, and teachers.

HIV & AIDS Helpline

Bedari HIV and AIDS Helpline was initiated in March 2007. In the last three years, over 21,500 persons have hit the Helpline. It is a nationwide toll free number 0800 13536, free for PTCL only. Women and girls can easily access this facility without disclosing their identity. Both male and female counselors are available to provide information. Recently, Bedari has added four mobile numbers of four different mobile operators to make calls easier and cheaper for mobile phone users. The numbers are:
