Women’s Inheritance Rights

Women in Pakistan usually do not inherit any thing left by their close relatives. This results in their disempowerment. Bedari took note of this issue and decided to publish a small booklet on Women’s Inheritance Rights in simple Urdu language. The book is meant for common women, so that they know what they should expect from the property of their close relatives in case of their death.

Accountability in Humanitarian Work

This book focuses on the need of accountability in humanitarian work with a case study of ‘Mansehra Consumer Helpline’. As disasters strike at different places, aid agencies rush to the area to provide aid to the disaster survivors. We hear a lot of stories about mismanagement and corruption. This happens often because the aid recipients have no platform to voice their concerns. Bedari provided such a platform in the form of ‘Mansehra Consumer Helpline’ to the survivors of deadly earthquake that struck Pakistan on October 08, 2005. The book provides the historic background on the issue of accountability in humanitarian sector and shares the experiences of running a complaint center for earthquake survivors in Mansehra district of Pakistan.

Turning Challenge into Opportunity

It is another publication that gives you an idea of how it played an instrumental role in helping the earthquake survivors in getting their due. Mansehra Consumer Helpline was established in June 2007 to provide earthquake survivors with a platform to voice their concerns and complaints against aid agencies (both government as well as non-government). The first part focuses on how it worked in the area, while the second part narrates the success stories giving an idea about the impact of the platform on the lives of the complainants.
